The 13 people killed when an Army psychiatrist allegedly opened fire on fellow soldiers at Fort Hood, Texas, included a pregnant woman who was preparing to return home, a man who quit a furniture company job to join the military about a year ago, a newlywed who had served in Iraq and a woman who had vowed to take on Osama bin Laden after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. Here is a look at some of …

Barney: Jungle Friends (DVD Talk)

November 7, 2009 // Posted in DEEP PURPLE News (Tags: , , , , , , , , , ) |  No Comments

Recommended Barney: Jungle Friends - The Movie: Most parents are well familiar with Barney and his friends, well familiar with the manner in which the show shakes down. The seven-foot purple dinosaur magically morphs from a little doll, commencing to entertain various kids in the park with the help of his little friends Riff, Baby Bop and BJ. They sing, they dance, and they peddle a positive …

Dinner at Ristras Mexican Grill

When I was growing up in the 1980’s, my first forays into Metro Manila’s night life centered on two Mexican restaurants-cum-bars just off Makati Avenue: Jalisco and Tia Maria. There my friends and I would wash down tacos, enchiladas, burritos, and nachos with considerable amounts of beer and cocktails. Since those early days, a couple more Mexican restaurants have set up shop in the metropolis. One of my favorite restaurants today is such an eatery at the corner of Jose Abad Santos and Lopez

The Lessons of Life… Read These

October 23, 2009 // Posted in DEEP PURPLE Blogs (Tags: , , , , , , ) |  No Comments

My wife Kathy received an e-mail from a friend that I want to share with you. Some of these you have seen before. They all come from Baby Boomers who have “been around the block” (several times). 1. Life isn’t fair, but it’s still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. 4. Your job won’t take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month.

Interiors in violet

Both Will and I have always loved houseplants. One of the hardest parts about moving to Europe was finding homes for the 50+ plants we had in the US. Thanks to friends and family, all our plants eventually found loving homes and most are doing well in their adopted environments. In Ireland, we had few indoor plants due to the lighting situation of the apartment. Still, we left behind a couple of children for our friends there. Our apartment in Luxembourg, on the other hand, is a houseplant’s d

The Smoke in The Woods

“There’s something wrong in the woods!” I nervously say. “Look at all the smoke rising up over there.” I point to where I see the smoke, in the trees a mile away, as my friends and I rest on a fallen tree, parched to a crisp by the dry, scorching heat.             “Stop worrying Eric, it’ just someone cooking food.” says Jason, one of my two friends accompanying me on this trip. He was right, my anxiety has always been one of my weak points because I worry way too much. But the worst part abou

Just For A Moment, Rest

SIGHT Land can look deep purple, cobalt blue from far away… but up close, it is surprise green, with browns, and slashes of clay red and hansa yellow. Sometimes souls are like that too: long view, short view, so different in color and tone… yet exact same soul. How war-ready the mind can become, when demanding only one true view, insisting all ground be immoveable, and sky always poised overhead. This way! Only this way, I tell you! But, the kite says otherwise.
